May 30, 2025 (Medford, MA)— LOCUS, a market leader in providing geolocation intelligence to transportation, and CALSTART, a global clean transportation non-profit, announced a partnership to support the development of the East Coast Commercial ZEV Corridor, a transformative initiative to electrify freight movement along the I-95 highway from New Jersey to Georgia.
The East Coast Commercial Zero–Emission Vehicle Corridor (ECCZEVC) project catalyzes partnerships and develops strategic investment plans to deploy infrastructure for zero-emission commercial vehicles from Georgia to New Jersey and is funded by a $1.2 million U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant. The project will create a blueprint for strategic, equitable deployment of medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure along one of the nation’s busiest freight routes.
LOCUS is providing its best-in-class Commercial Vehicle trip information to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), another key partner in the ECCZECV project, which is using the data to create freight flow models to assess the charging and refueling infrastructure necessary for zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
The joint effort underscores the importance of data-driven planning in the transition to zero-emission commercial transportation. LOCUS will provide essential data based on travel patterns of Medium and Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles on the ECCZEVC, expanded using a behavioral approach that takes into account demand generators such as ports, warehouses and distribution centers, and truck parking stop locations.
The combined strength of the partners, under CALSTART Leadership, and bringing in other stakeholders, including utilities, communities and government agencies, will help deliver a bold strategy for medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) zero-emission freight along the Eastern Seaboard.
“It all starts with strong data underpinned by subject matter expertise,” said Anurag Komanduri, President of LOCUS. “We live in a fortunate time where we have the modeling tools and processing capabilities to shape our future in mobility and safety using the most accurate available information on the movement of people and vehicles. We are proud to be able to contribute to this journey and are excited by the promise of a zero-emission transportation future.”
